Defense Entrepreneurs Forum (DEF)
General Code of Conduct

Every DEF member is valued and respected for bringing a special perspective to the conversation. We hope you will join us, participate, and do great things as we work together to advance a culture of innovation in national security.

This code of conduct seeks to create a common expectation within the DEF environment. Inclusiveness and psychological safety are key to innovation and a healthy community. We welcome all people who support our mission at our events and forums, regardless of background and identity.

We want to be very specific on a few key behaviors DEF does not tolerate:
-
Using sexualized language or imagery, or inappropriate physical contact, sexual attention, or advances
-
Trolling, derogatory comments, personal or political attacks, or disrupting talks or events
-
Intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording
-
Harassment of any kind
-
Posting, or threatening to post, people's personally identifiable information ("doxing")
-
Attribution of any comments, content, or materials not explicitly approved for sharing beyond the forum in which they were made
-
Posting self-promotional advertising to DEF community platforms (social media, Slack, private groups, email lists)
-
Using status as a DEF member or volunteer for personal gain, or untruthfully representing oneself as acting on behalf of DEF
-
Any criminal or unlawful behavior, or attempts to engage in such behavior
-
Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behaviors
-
Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a community setting

DEF membership is contingent upon compliance with this code of conduct. Any violation of the standards of conduct described in this Code of Conduct may result in termination of membership in DEF.

We encourage local communities and individuals to resolve issues on their own whenever possible, and anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. However, if you believe you’ve been bullied, harassed, discriminated, etc. and feel you cannot resolve the situation or wish to report it at any time, please reach out to conduct@def.org so that we can thoroughly investigate the situation and take appropriate actions.
